This rear facing extension to an existing Semi-detached bungalow in Polmont features:

New Kitchen area.

Large Living room area.

DiningĀ area.

Open plan design.

The extension was design to compliment the existing house features such its gable-end type roof, low eaves and dry dash render finishing with the addition of some more contemporary materials such as grey windows and soffit/fascia detailing.

The extension has been designed to work around quite a difficult site. The existing Garage could not be moved and this restricted the width and access into the existing house. The solution to this was to form a glazed area to the side of the extension to widen access and to bring in much needed additional light now the extension would be covering a large area of the rear of the house.

A tall and narrow fixed pane window is inserted at the rear corner of the extension for the same reason, to bring featured light into an area that would otherwise be dark, this is complimented with velux roof lights aligned over the window.

On the opposite side, the extension is flanked by the existing garage a little over a metre away, again this presents day light problems in getting enough light spread evenly across the extension. A combination of the tall window and large velux above provide an aesthetically pleasing solution to this problem.

The main access to the Garden area is in the rear facing gable elevation, the clients budget allowed to large bi-fold doors to be used providing more light and a wonderful design feature to be utilized on a summers day.

This together with new garden landscaping comes together to form a really lovely new living space.
